Follow these simple steps to create a colorful bird feeder that will attract feathered friends to your backyard.

Materials Needed:

  • Empty milk carton

  • Scissors

  • Paint

  • String

  • Birdseed

Step-by-Step Instructions:

  1. Prepare the Milk Carton:

  • Start by thoroughly rinsing out the empty milk carton and letting it dry. This ensures the bird feeder is clean and safe for birds.

  1. Cut a Window:

  • Using scissors, carefully cut a window on one side of the milk carton. Make sure the window is large enough for birds to access the birdseed but not too large that it compromises the structure of the carton.

  1. Decorate the Carton:

  • Let your child’s creativity shine by decorating the milk carton with paint. Encourage them to use bright colors and patterns. Allow the paint to dry completely before proceeding to the next step.

  1. Create a Hanging Loop:

  • Punch a small hole at the top of the milk carton. Thread a piece of string through the hole and tie a knot to create a loop for hanging the feeder.

  1. Fill with Birdseed:

  • Pour birdseed into the carton through the window opening. Fill it to a level where birds can easily reach the seeds without spilling too much.

  1. Hang the Feeder:

  • Find a suitable spot outside to hang your bird feeder. Ideally, choose a location that is visible from a window so you and your child can watch the birds enjoy their new feeder.
