ABOUT THE LESSON: This fun recycled puppet can be any made-up creature or it can be an animal, figure or person. Paper mâché is a fun craft technique where you use torn up paper ('mâché’ means ‘mashed’/ 'chewed up' in French) and glue to create a shape of something. SUPERSKILLS: tactile sensory: Is when an individual experiences a sensory stimulus through touch and feeling from their hands and on their skin. Children react differently to the paper mâché sensory experience. Some children will only stick the tips of their fingers into the glue while others absolutely love it and get glue all over themselves. Sometimes they end up adding a lot more glue than what's really needed (but it's okay, it just takes a little bit longer to dry). WHAT YOU'LL NEED: Use what you have and be creative: First Lesson To create the 'glue' Maizina / Corn starch Water Pot Stove For Prep and Class Your home-made 'glue' (recipe above) Utility knife Scissors Skewer Pipe cleaner 2-3 A4 pages of normal copy paper Paint brush Newspapers (cover table to protect it from the "glue") Empty milk carton. Square or rectangular. Detail elements. Egg carton, bottle caps, scraps of paper and cardboard Duct tape, Stapler, Glue gun Second Lesson Scissors Watercolor paint/ Tempera watercolor cakes If you use acrylic paint, allow for another day to dry Paintbrush Water in a container Oil Pastels Duct Tape Decoration items: pipe cleaners, foam sheets, bottle caps, corks, color paper, googly eyes, etc. Glue Stapler Hot glue gun
